Karl's parents (Paul and Betty) bought the farm in 1976 as a hobby farm. A year later they moved out to the farm from the Twin Cities and started milking cows. In 1987 they sold the dairy cows and switched to beef cows. Karl took over the operation in 2007. In 2014 Karl and Stephanie were married. Stephanie grew up near Rochester Minnesota and works for a large consulting firm. Within three years of getting married, two wonderful boys, Abraham and Christian, joined the family.
Our farm is located in Prairie Farm, Wisconsin (one hour east of Stillwater, Minnesota) and named after the Vance Creek which flows through our fields and pastures. We farm approximately 375 acres and currently run 40 cows in addition to the calves and bulls. The land is hilly and beautiful, ideal for grass and hay. Vance Creek is a trout stream and our section of the creek is full of native-born brook and brown trout.
Mission Statement: Seeking first the kingdom of God through a grass-fed beef farm that is focused on providing a healthy product that is beneficial to the customer and environment.
Visitors are welcome!
What are you eating? Our cows eat grass! We are 100% grass-fed; our beef contains no corn, no growth hormones and no antibiotics. All of our animals are born and raised at our farm (with the exception of breeding bulls that we purchase). The benefit to you the consumer is knowing what our cows eat and where your food is coming from.
We employ a holistic and sustainable method in managing our pastures and hayfields. The goal is healthy soil which leads to nutritious and abundant grass. We do this by rotating our pastures, using minimum tillage practices and applying manure instead of synthetic fertilizers when needed. Rotating pastures allows the grass a chance to regrow and build better root systems which increase soil health. The end product is a beef that is both healthy, tender and delicious. Beef that you can feel good about!
